The Buy It Now price is exactly what I paid for it years ago from a professional orchestrator. You’ll be hard pressed to find another Magnum I in such pristine condition. Comes with original hardshell case- also in extremely good condition. It's not hard to see why these basses have become iconic and so coveted. The playability and diverse range of this bass are nothing short of incredible. The sound here is somewhere between a Rickenbacker and J-Bass. The pickup is height and tilt adjustable with 3 screws. But it actually has 2 coils, one coil for the E and A strings and 1 for the D and G strings. The bridge pickup has 4 U-shaped pole pieces. The sound of this pickup is somewhere between an EB-0 and P-bass. It has a separate coil for each string and also has a trip-pot so each string's output is adjustable by controlling a small dial beneath each pole. The massive neck pickup is a large(3 inch x 3 1/2inch) pickup that has 4 pole pieces. The technological aspects to this bass are no less impressive. A who's who of exotic bass-building materials, the body was constructed of solid Honduran mahogany, with graphite reinforcement rods placed in the glued and bolted-on, 2-piece mahogany neck, an ebony fretboard, silver-alloy frets, a cast aluminum bridge with brass saddles, and real mother of pearl inlays. In exquisite condition, with only one tiny little blemish(see photo) Other than that, this bass has been astonishingly preserved. Up for auction is an extremely rare 1978 Ovation Magnum I.
